Hi! My name is Mimi Collado, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) at Texas Counseling Center Riverstone Sugar Land location. I provides therapeutic services for children, adolescents, adults and families here at Texas Counseling Center.
My passion has always been supporting and helping children and families. I started out as a teacher for five years with my teaching certification in early childhood to 6th grade. During my experience as a teacher in Japan, South Korea, and here in Houston, Texas, I have observed and learned how much mental health impacts kids and their family system. This led me to my journey to become an LCSW, receiving my master’s degree in social work from the University of Houston. I gained a variety of clinical experience interning with Communities In Schools at Lone Star College, Texas Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Kung Yung Koon in Hong Kong where I linked clients to community resources and gave psychoeducation and mental health services.
My social work career continued with providing resources and mental health support for five years with Communities in Schools of Houston working with elementary, middle, and high school students and their families. The mental health approaches I used and continue to use are:
- Mindfulness
- Bibliotherapy
- Play Therapy
- Art Therapy
- Client-Centered
- Solution-Focused
- Trauma-Informed
- Strengths-Based
For the last three years, I have worked as the senior clinician and later became the adolescent program coordinator of the adolescent mental health services at Ethos Wellness. I have gained valuable experience working with teens and their families in the intensive outpatient program, after care program and outpatient care who are needing support with anxiety, depression, mood dysregulation, ADHD, suicidal ideation, self-harm/non-suicidal self-injury, borderline personality traits, autism, grief and loss, and life transitions – divorce, school changes, friendships, relationships. The mental health interventions and theories I have become more experienced in are:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Executive Functioning (EF)
- Bowen’s Family Therapy
- Structural and Systemic Family Therapy
I strive to meet each client where they are emotionally and mentally while supporting their growth and goals. I believe in empowering my clients with healthy coping skills and boundaries with themselves and with others for a better quality of life. I also believe that mental health struggles can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, social economic status, religion or other types of cultural identity. It is important for me to provide psychotherapy with cultural humility, and I continue to reflect and grow in this area throughout my career.
