My name is Joy Lee, LPC. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin in 2019. And I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Houston Baptist University in 2021.
I was born in South Korea and moved to Houston, TX in 2006. I am bilingual and speak English and Korean fluently. Growing up with Korean and American cultures allowed me to broaden my worldview and learn what it means to embrace and cherish the lessons both sides teach me. It has sparked curiosity and a desire to meet and learn about different cultures through counseling, as wholehearted living begins with accepting where we come from and owning our stories.
In my counseling work, I use an integrative approach, meaning I include different types of therapy to tailor a treatment plan specifically for each individual. My foundations are from person-centered therapy, and I utilize concepts and techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), somatic therapy, internal family systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Gottman. I believe there isn’t just one therapeutic approach that can help a client in all situations; therefore, I appreciate the beauty of integrative therapy.
I am passionate about helping children, adolescents, couples, and families grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Throughout my counseling practice, I have worked with different populations on topics including stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, shame, guilt, grief, self-esteem, values, identity, anger management, emotions, relationships, and communication skills.
My greatest interest lies in the individual’s well-being, and as a counselor, I ensure to facilitate a safe environment for exploration, support, and discovering internal and external strengths and resources to overcome challenges. As a counselor, I am honored to be a part of your life’s journey as we learn to navigate through the challenges and become the owners of each of our stories. I look forward to walking together in your journey of growth and change and seeing you live the wholehearted life that you deserve!
Before you go, a fun fact about me is that I ended a 5-year-long-distance relationship and got married in March 2024 to the love of my life and now live in Dallas, TX, with my husband and our adorable son. We enjoy cooking together, going on a casual ride, reading books to our baby, and just spending time together as a family! I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you, and living out the life that you envision.
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth… But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”John 14:16 & 26
