Greetings!
All is well! My name is Kemi Donahue, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of Deanna Alcala. I am so excited to meet you!
When I think about the journey I have taken in life, it started in middle school. I was the friend in the group whom everyone came to for encouragement and inspiration, so was no one surprised when back when I first started teaching; I declared to my community, “I am going back to school AGAIN, and this time to pursue a degree in becoming a counselor.”
My passion as a therapist is to be that “encouraging cheerleader for others” whenever people find themselves hopeless.
My goal as your therapist is to help guide my clients to discover deep within their value, worth, and “inner superhero” so that they can strive to become the best versions of themselves by prioritizing their mental health by doing “soul work”.
My therapeutic approaches are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing(MI), Creative Art Therapy, Personal Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy(SFBT).
My mission is to assist my clients in recognizing and realizing that, despite the hardships in life, they have a purpose and a destiny to continue seeking. With my experience and expertise in dealing with crisis, anxiety, stress management, and relationship conflict (peer and family), in our sessions, we will work to equip you with the necessary tools to live a healthy life.
Currently, I am a school counselor and previously taught for eleven years. I was given the opportunity to teach a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) class which gave me that final push in the direction of pursuing a counseling degree. This SEL class was structured like a small group in which psychoeducational topics were taught such as Self-Confidence, Self-Awareness, Building Healthy Relationships, Vision & Goal Planning, and skills for adolescents marketing themselves in a global market.
I graduated from the University of Houston Victoria (2021) with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health with a School Counselor certificate. I received my bachelor’s in Criminal Justice (Sam Houston State University in 2001) and a Master’s degree in Criminology (University of Houston Clear Lake in 2007).
I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I offer therapy for individuals and small groups. Alas, the greatest gift that one can give to oneself is to invest in a better and healthier version of oneself. I am ready to take this journey with you!
FUN FACTS About ME:
I love dancing, painting, reading, traveling, and writing. I have found a new passion for boxing.
