Garry Nix

Hello, my name is Garry Nix, and I am an LPC-Associate at the Texas Counseling Center Pearland location, under the supervision of Jackeline Hurtado, LPC-S.

Life has taken me through many different paths—serving 20 years in the United States Navy, 13 years in law enforcement, 10 years in residential treatment, and 7 years as a college instructor. Each of these experiences deepened my understanding of people, resilience, trauma, relationships, and the importance of hope. Today, I bring those experiences into the counseling room to provide a compassionate, practical, and supportive environment where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered.

I believe every person has a unique story, and no one should have to face life’s challenges alone. My goal is to walk alongside my clients as they navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship struggles, and personal growth. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where healing can occur and where clients are encouraged to discover their strengths, build resilience, and move toward lasting change.

My counseling approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs. I draw from several evidence-based modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness practices. Rather than believing there is a “one-size-fits-all” approach, I work with clients to develop a treatment plan that best supports their personal goals.

I enjoy working with teens, adults, couples, first responders, military members and veterans, individuals processing trauma, and those seeking personal, emotional, or spiritual growth. For clients who desire it, I also integrate Christian faith into the counseling process, recognizing the role that faith can play in healing, restoration, and living with purpose.

What makes my approach unique is the combination of professional clinical training and decades of real-world experience serving others in high-stress environments. Having personally experienced leadership, service, crisis intervention, and life’s many transitions, I understand that healing often begins when people finally feel safe enough to tell their story.

Outside of counseling, I enjoy strength training, riding my Harley-Davidson motorcycle, spending time with family, playing guitar, and investing in men’s ministry where I encourage men to become stronger leaders, husbands, fathers, and followers of Christ.
