Hello, my name is Alexis Penning, and I am a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate at Texas Counseling Center Woodlands location under the supervision of Ayesha Lakhani, MA, LPC-S.
I received my Bachelor of Social Work at Stephen F. Austin University. I then pursued my Master of Education in Counseling and Development- Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling.
I have several years of experience within the foster care system. In doing this work, I have developed a deep commitment to supporting children who have experienced trauma. I am passionate about being a consistent, safe, and nurturing presence for children navigating complex emotional experiences. I am currently pursuing a credential as a Registered Play Therapist, allowing me to deepen my work through expressive, developmentally appropriate approaches and healing. I value the opportunity to work with both children and their families and have experience with working with children as young as 4 years of age. It is my hope to help families foster healing, strengthen relationships, and promote long term healing and well-being. Advocacy is at the heart of my work, and I strive to empower every child and family I serve with compassion and respect.
I will pursue basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy in July. In completing this training, it will help me enhance my ability to work with more complex trauma, anxiety, grief, and dissociation.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I love getting to relax by the beach and enjoy reading a good book.
