Hello! My name is Jhoanie Romero, LPC and I am the Assistant Director of Behavioral Health at Texas Counseling Center Katy. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in Psychology and a minor in Health Education from the University of Houston-Main Campus. I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Palo Alto University, a university that specializes in the behavioral health disciplines. I graduated with honors from both institutions.
My specialty lies in working with individuals who experience symptoms and traits associated with trauma and neurodivergence, such executive function challenges and shame. I also have experience working with individuals struggling with perfectionism, people-pleasing tendencies, faulty thinking patterns, and grief. I help treat people living with:
- Mood Disorders ( bipolar disorders and depressive disorders)
- Anxiety Disorders
- Trauma-Related Disorders ( including Complex Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences)
- Neurodevelopmental Disorders (ADHD and Autism)
My 3 years of experience working as a Registered Behavioral Technician with adolescents and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities has greatly influenced my work as a clinician. My aim is to bring awareness and education of the mind-body connection through trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming care. I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) as an intervention for individuals who have experienced various forms of trauma.
I believe each of us holds unique characteristics influenced by our genetics, environment and significant life events. Therefore, there is no “one size fits all” to therapy. My approach is integrative, pulling from the following modalities:
- Parts-Work
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
- EMDR
I collaborate with clients to establish goals and create individualized treatment plans that will cater to their needs, helping them be their authentic selves and live a fulfilling life. My overall aim is to create a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
Outside of my work as clinician, I spend time with my loved ones and my 3 furry companions (2 huskies, 1 great pyrenees-shepher mix). I value spending time with nature, so you will often find me hiking, traveling, and volunteering at animal rehabilitation centers or shelters. I also enjoy binging TV shows, watching Japanese animation, exploring different foods around the Houston area, and occasionally playing video games.
