Education

Hello! My name is Riley Newton, and I am a Counselor-in-Training at the Little Elm location of Texas Counseling Center under the supervision of Bonnie Simien, LPC. I am currently completing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Midwestern State University. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences from the University of Arkansas.

My desire to support others with empathy, compassion, and understanding has been the foundation of my journey toward becoming a counselor. My experience as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) has allowed me to work closely with children and their families while supporting communication, emotional regulation, and behavioral goals. Through this experience, I developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of patience, individualized care, and meeting each person where they are at. These experiences have shaped my approach to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, valued, and encouraged to grow.

I have a passion for working with children, teens, and young adults navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, and relationship difficulties. My counseling approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) while being grounded in a Person-Centered approach. I believe therapy is a collaborative process and strive to create a warm, supportive space where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

Outside of my work in counseling, I enjoy spending time with my dogs, Milo and Moose, and creating meaningful memories with my loved ones. I enjoy traveling, exploring new restaurants, reading, going on walks, and spending time in the sun. These moments allow me to stay connected, recharge, and appreciate the things that bring balance to my life.
