Welcome, my name is Bonnie Simien and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor.
I have experience working with children, teens, and adults, and it has been a privilege to work with each individual in helping them to achieve their goals and find healing and hope in the process!
I received my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance in 2006 from Xavier University of Louisiana, and from there taught as an Elementary Music Teacher for 14 years. I developed a passion for working with children, and decided to earn my Masters in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Houston – Victoria in 2020. Since that time, I enjoyed counseling both women and children who were struggling with the effects of domestic violence by serving as a group facilitator for a Child Parent Relationship Therapy Group and offering play therapy sessions for children at a non-profit organization. From there I worked as an LPC – Associate for two years in a behavioral health hospital with teens and adults in group therapy for mental health challenges such as depression, anger management, and anxiety. For the past three years, it has been a blessing to be able to work with clients ranging from 4 to 18 years of age in private practice with a psychiatric group. I have utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as both non-directive and directive Play Therapy techniques in working with children and teens in their struggles with depression, anxiety, ADHD, as well as difficulty adjusting to daily life stressors.
In addition to enjoying being a therapist, I also love spending time with my two little puppies, as well as family and friends. I enjoy anything in nature, especially fishing and painting landscapes, playing piano, traveling to historical places, and karaoke!
My desire is to ensure that, as you seek healing, you feel invested in, listened to, and find yourself able to trust in me as your therapist as we work together on your goals and needs. We all face times of struggle and uncertainty or frustration, but it is my firm belief that each human being has an innate capacity to grow in resiliency and come out stronger on the other side.
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”
– Helen Keller
